Gerry was a lovely man, a very gentle soul. He was sworn about a week before we were attested as he would have been over 30 yrs old when we attested. Always had a funny story to tell. I remember that Insp Alec Woods who I worked with at Balmain when he was a Sergeant 2/c relating a story when he was weekend officer and went to check the pads at the old Gladesville Police Station. He walked in and Gerry was behind the counter typing and looking resplendent in the old long sleeve shirt with creases in the sleeves that you could have cut butter with his tie and well groomed. Alec said he came from behind the counter to greet me and he was wearing his long pyjama pants and a pair of slippers. One would loved to have been a fly on the wall, ( no pun intended ).
Heartfelt thanks for remembering our Dad so fondly – we never knew that story but sounded so much like something Dad would do. We are all so humbled by the wonderful stories being shared … we knew how special he was but for this to be echoed back to us is very special. Thank you ????
