Ray loved his work at Nowra and Wollongong but it was unfortunately curtailed after he developed Type 1 Diabetes stemming from a virus infection.
Once Ray resigned from NSWPF around 1981, he became the Publican at the Dapto Hotel for nearly 10 years. He and his wife, Chris, also owned Granny Mae’s Store in Wollongong.
He enjoyed his football, his bowls at Nowra and was a real practical joker.

I later encountered Ray again after I moved to 2 Double O in Wollongong – last saw him at the Dapto hotel …he was still the same Ray I’d met in Nowra
