FUNERAL OF A CONSTABLE – The funeral of constable Peter Dunn, who for 12 years was attached to the Metropolitan Police, and died on Tuesday evening, took place yesterday. At 1.30 p.m , the coffin covered with wreaths, was borne by six of deceased’s comrades at No 1 station from the residence off Pitt street, near Bathurst-street The cortege, which included about 100 constables representing all the Metropolitan and some suburban stations, was headed by the police band under Bandmaster Hutchinson.
A number of civilians were in vehicles.
The cortege went along Pitt street and turned into Liverpool-street, passing the Central Police Court, and then by way of George-street proceeded to the Mortuary station. The interment took place at Rookwood. The band with muffled drums played along the route the “Dead March” in ” Saul ” and Beethoven’s ” Dead March. ” Inspector Potter and Senior-sergeants Chambers and Roden were the principal police officers present.
