The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), was established in 1964 and was tasked to prevent a recurrence of fighting as well as contribute to the maintenance and restoration of law and order.
The first contingent of Australian Police arrived in Nicosia on 24 May 1964.
